The company from Straubing, Germany successfully launched the "Built Together" campaign last year with the aim of fully integrating the passion, expertise and diverse creative energy of Völkl athletes, engineers and artistic graphic designers into the ski development process. Through this unique, imaginative fusion the Völkl team has redefined the ski building process. The result is innovative, stylish, and above all, authentic.
“Our vision for “Built Together” proved to be highly successful. We have managed to break new ground and have created the perfect freestyle ski with and for our athletes. Or rather: skis that meet the requirements of every true freestyle skier. And we are proud to be able to immediately set the next milestone for the coming season”, says Jean-Claude Pedrolini, product and team manager at Völkl.
“We have never been so directly involved in ski development as in this project. For me as an athlete, “Built Together” is thus something very special that is close to my heart. The first phase was a lot of fun. So, I was all the more pleased that I could take part again this year,” adds Markus Eder, the Völkl team athlete who earned the overall victory in the Freeride World Tour on last year's Revolt 121.
“Built Together” leaves nothing to chance. Völkl also follows its campaign goals when it comes to graphic design, and has brought together various international artists who design the skis in collaboration with Völkl team riders. The artists involved were selected according to the course of an athlete's season. Following on from the first season’s artist who came from New Zealand, a renowned artist from America has now assumed the responsibility for 2020/21. The skis will then be designed in collaboration with an artist from China in 2022, in anticipation of next season’s Winter Olympics. A European designer will take on the design for the following year.
"Built Together" presents: The new Revolt 104
To build on the success of the Revolt 121, the development team started working on the next generation of “Built Together” immediately after launching the first product line. With head engineer Lucas Romain, product and team manager Jean-Claude Pedrolini and athletes Markus Eder, Paddy Graham, Tanner Rainville, Colter Hinchliffe, Tom Ritsch, Fabio Studer and Ahmet Dadali, concentrated know-how, experience and passion were once again at work. When developing the new model, the team followed the core idea of the Revolt 121: to develop a ski that can be used every day, in a wide variety of conditions by all freeskiers. After almost a year of intense development and testing, Völkl is ready to welcome the new Revolt 104 to the freestyle family.
"We put so much passion into the development and were all super excited to ski with the final product for the first time. I am thrilled and proud that we have put together such a brilliant ski again this season," says Markus Eder. “It is fantastic to see that our vision has been fulfilled in this ski. Whether jibbing, kicking or in the backcountry, the Revolt 104 is extremely versatile and simply a whole lot of fun no matter where it is used. The graphics are also superb and never get boring, because you discover new things over and over again,” adds Völkl team athlete Paddy Graham.
The new product design for the 2020/21 season skis originates from the former American professional surfer and artist, Ben Brough. His designs inspire people the world over and can be seen in galleries, on a wide range of products and album covers, as well as outdoor murals. “It is a great honor for me to work with the Völkl team. I let myself be inspired by the speed, style and fearlessness of the Völkl athletes when creating this design. I love mythical creatures and their legends, so this project was also something very special for me personally. I imagined these animals coming to life on skis as they fly down a snow-covered mountain," explains Ben Brough.
